Eventually, it was decided that Bodhi "moving in" if you could call the small room he was allowed - moved in - to make things easier.
If you could call this "easier". Most of his friends had long since gone home, but explaining to the ones who remained what had happened and what he's doing had been wrenching. To the ones who didn't know about the torrid relationship between the two of them, it didn't mean much. But those that knew, he'd seen the judgement and worry in their eyes, and it'd envoked more than one argument.
But now, in the end - with Hux more than half through his term - no more hiding his condition on his lanky frame, it was in the open and here they were.
It was miserable, responding to the former general's every whim, no matter how ridiculous - keeping his promise to make sure that Bodhi was unhappy - but he'd just remind himself he wasn't doing this for Hux but the child. Every run to the grocery store at an obscene hour, every foot rub, or extreme moodswing put up with.
That's not to say that Bodhi wasn't at least trying to make this work, or trying to make it bearable for them to be living in the same space. Usually he tries to keep out of the other man's way until he's needed, but this morning he's up early making breakfast in the kitchen. Usually Hux is up by this point, the man is punctual like nobody he's ever seen. ]
[Even almost five months in and Hux forces himself to maintain his usual schedule even if he was exhausted that morning. He usually didn't expect Bodhi up at this hour so he was confused when he heard sounds coming from the kitchen as he came downstairs in his bathrobe. It was what he usually wore these days aside from loose pants and a t-shirt. Not many options but at least he could work from home.
The last four months had been miserable and he just wanted this to be over. The news hadn't gone well with anyone but there was nothing they could do. He wasn't going to let Bodhi just escape suffering for this just as much as he was, if not more so. And it seemed no matter how miserable he seemed, Bodhi still stuck around.
He was exhausted as he stepped into the kitchen, looking around. He hadn't slept well during the night since he couldn't seem to get comfortable and now Bodhi was just standing there making eggs so casually.]
Why are you up so early? And I want toast, not eggs. With bacon.
Couldn't sleep. [ Bodhi had always had trouble sleeping. For a while, he managed normally - while here, but now... it was back to perusing the network or listening to quiet music while he stared at the ceiling. Trying to ignore the biting anxiety and keep the waves of unhappiness at bay. ] The eggs are for me.
[ He replies simply, without looking up from the pan. Which okay, they weren't originally for him - he barely likes eggs but he'll eat them anyways. There's bacon frying in the pan already, which is slid out onto a plate before starting toast. ]
What're you up to today? [ Just trying to make casual-if-not-awkward-conversation while he works. He's a better cook now so that bacon is cooked perfectly, mind. ]
[Hux pulled himself onto the bar stool at the counter, watching Bodhi while suppressing a yawn.]
Neither could I. I think I need to get a couple of more pillows for my bed.
[Everything was uncomfortable, even this morning conversation. He had come to terms with Bodhi living here- as much as he hated admitting it he did need the help around the house and getting around. Ordering Bodhi around had been fun at first but now it was a reminder of all the things he couldn't do.]
I wanted to finish some recommendations and send them off to clients.
[Which he had meant to do yesterday but had ended up doing little work and then sleeping the rest of the afternoon.]
[ Bodhi nods, but again, doesn't look up beyond checking on the rest of the breakfast. ]
Sure. I'll go pick some up while I'm out.
[ It wasn't uncommon for him to occasionally protest at being sent out for some of the more ridiculous requests. Or even some of the more sensible ones if he had plans of his own. But he'd since stopped protesting and just went along with it - even on occasion, like now, volunteering himself to do things. ]
I'm taking a test for a driver's license, and a friend is helping me find a car. Might be a good idea for me to be able to drive soon.
Alright. [Hux nodded, grabbing a fork to spear a piece of bacon to eat it. Despite the heartburn and nausea, the bacon still tasted delicious. He never thanked Bodhi outright but the nod was progress.]
That's good. I'm not going to be able to drive comfortably soon. [And despite letting Bodhi move in, he wasn't letting anyone else touch his Lexus. But he was thoughtful for a moment as he finished off the piece of bacon, taking another.]
I'll pay for the car. It's in exchange for staying here. [It was as far as he would go to thank Bodhi even though, despite his best efforts, he did feel grateful for having Bodhi here. He really didn't want to do any of this by himself. He put the fork down and idly rubbed his stomach, hoping that he wasn't getting heartburn again.]
Just let me know how much it costs and I'll transfer the money.
Sounds good. I'll let you know when I've found one. [ It was as close to a "thank you" as Bodhi would likely ever get, and he wouldn't have it any other way - Hux suddenly going mushy on him it would likely only serve to worry him. Force, the whole thing was weird enough as it were, even now, five months in and a few months into them living together.
Anyways, having a car of his own would make it easier on both of them. And he'd been wanting to get one either way - it was just for a different reason than he'd originally planned.
Taking up a bit of eggs on his own fork, he glanced up to see Hux rubbing his stomach. ]
[Hux put the fork down, deciding that he didn't want to spend the day throwing up as he had before these past few months. It had gotten better but he decided to play it safe.
He was glad when Bodhi didn't thank him directly or got sentimental. That definitely would have made him feel sick. This whole situation was something he was sure he wouldn't get used to so he just had to make the best of it. He yawned as he reached for a piece of toast that was on Bodhi's plate that he hadn't touched yet, deciding it was his now.]
I wanted to go outside for a bit if the weather allows, as well.
[He hated being in the house all the time. After he started really showing he started working primarily at home and only left for appointments and walks- he had grumbled when the doctor had insisted that he get some form of exercise. At least the house was on a large property so he could walk in the forest without being disturbed by anyone except for insects.]
Good. I'd hate for you to be sick in the kitchen. [ Despite anything -- for many reasons, he truly doesn't want him to be sick.
And starting the day cleaning up vomit is hardly a part of his ideal morning.
His toast is gone before he can grab it and he glares, reaching over to take one of the pieces of bacon that Hux didn't eat, shaking his head. ]
Alright, just don't go to far. I know I don't need to remind you to call if you need anything. [ Because he would. For anything at all, at any time. On the one hand it was good that he wasn't trying to attempt things he really should not at this point into things, but on the other are you really calling him because you want him to open a jar of mustard for you?? ]
No, you don't. I'll call you if I have to. [Hux wasn't going to apologize for taking Bodhi's toast, finishing it off before looking at the second piece of toast on Bodhi's plate. But he paused, rubbing his stomach again with an odd look, brows furrowed.]
I think it's moving.
[It was such a strange feeling and he hated how emotional he felt at the moment. He wasn't sentimental but there was something about feeling the baby move that made him feel something he couldn't explain. And he didn't want to try to explain it, either.]
Wait, really? [ He sits up a little straighter, dropping the bacon back onto the plate. Obviously it happens, he'd even read a few books that said it was around that time for movement to start, but.
Wow. That's really happening.
Bodhi's eyes move from the expression on Hux's face down to the hand rubbing the swell of his stomach. Instinctively, not thinking he reaches out and freezes, his hand hanging in the air. Yeah, he knows better than to touch him without permission (usually the only time he's allowed is a foot or back rub). And he doesn't quite feel like getting his arm burned off at this time, no thank you. ]
[He looked up at Bodhi's hand there between them. His first thought was to tell Bodhi to sit back down before he broke every bone in his hand. It was tempting but then Bodhi would most likely look sad the rest of the day and while Hux didn't feel bad for causing it, it was rather annoying to have to see it.
Ugh.]
Fine. Right here where my hand is.
[He moved his hand away because the last thing he wanted was to make this moment intimate. It was already far too intimate than he wanted. It was one thing when this started with what was supposed to be a one-night thing with a stranger but being that close to Bodhi was awkward.
He kept still as Bodhi moved closer to him, looking down at his stomach.]
text; 3 weeks after the previous thread......
No. I'll torture you, make you beg for the release of death first. I am going to break you, Bodhi Rook.

[ its over text, but you can almost hear the sarcasm on Hux's title. yeah, he's not afraid of him anymore. ]
